A New Type of Granny Square: Learn to tapestry crochet w/ Lace In The Moon
Spend an afternoon learning the fundamentals of tapestry-style crocheting with crochet installation artist Nicole Nikolich of Lace In The Moon. During this class on the 3rd floor of the Paradigm Arts Building, you will learn how to read crochet grids and color change. You will also walk away with the knowledge of how to customize and create your own patterns. At the end of the class, you will take home your own pixilated-style piece of art, as well as materials to further your crocheting practice at home.
No experience is needed. All skill levels are welcome. All materials will be provided.
About Nicole:
Nicole Nikolich is the creative force and laborer of love behind Lace In The Moon. She grew up in Northern Virginia and received her BFA in Fashion from Virginia Commonwealth University before moving to Philadelphia in 2016. Despite experimenting with numerous artistic outlets throughout her life, Nicole never felt married to a medium until her hands met a crochet hook. During the particularly cold and dreary winter of 2017, Nicole taught herself how to crochet by watching YouTube tutorials nonstop. After weeks of learning, she found that crochet combined her love of texture with her love of color in a beautifully amorphic way.
As an avid street art lover who was becoming increasingly inspired by the popularity of the yarnbombing movement, Nicole began taking her creations to the street. Her first yarnbomb was a small, simple, flowery circle tied to a fence in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philly. She soon discovered a knack for grabbing attention and exploring themes that resonate with people, which led her to create larger and brighter pieces all over Philadelphia. Now, she creates mural-sized installations for clients in the U.S. and abroad. However, Nicole hasn’t strayed far from her origins as a street artist, and she’s constantly hiding new creations in the nooks and crannies of Philly and other neighboring cities

All Fun and Dinner: a Dining Experience Celebrating Connection
Please join Paradigm Gallery + Studio at the Paradigm Arts Building (12 N. 3rd St) on Thursday, July 27th at 6:00pm for a ticketed dinner celebrating connection and company in honor of Katherine Fraser’s solo exhibition, All Fun and Games. The evening’s +5-course meal by Chef Moriah Greathouse will focus on seasonal ingredients from local purveyors like stone ground flour by Castle Valley Mills and sustainable seafood by Local 130 Seafood. Guests will receive crafted cocktails by Art in the Age and a selection of wines by Mural City Cellars.
In All Fun and Games, Fraser uses disposable party decorations as a metaphor for the emptiness of our culture and a lens into the excesses and superficiality of society. The evening’s event aims to be a solution and antithesis to the problems Fraser poses in her exhibition. Art in the Age, Chef Moriah, Remark Glass, Felt + Fat, and Mural City Cellars were all selected as partners, as their individual creative practices concentrate on bringing joy and radical presence to the dining experience while keeping in mind the topics of reuse and reduction of waste. Throughout the evening, guests are invited to put away their phones and participate in the distractionless event by engaging with the world around them; a one-night-only experiment of intention, thoughtfulness, and purposeful care.
Tickets are $250 and reservations are required.
The evening marks the first dinner event in Paradigm Arts Building’s new calendar of public events programming that delivers dynamic art-forward experiences to Philadelphia’s most culturally-engaged residents.

Girl Crush Workshop… 2023! With Danielle Krysa of The Jealous Curator
Well, it’s been YEARS since my last ‘Girl Crush Workshop’, but I’m taking it off the shelf to help kick off the amazing-ness that is the new Paradigm Gallery + Studio! Here’s the gist:
WHAT: A one day workshop filled with introspection + inspiration, delicious lunch + pretty cakes, and art + friend making,… in the real world! We’ll spend the morning sharing our stories, and working through creative exercises to figure out what we want + what’s been holding us back. We’ll break for a catered lunch, and then roll up our sleeves for a “BAD ART Afternoon”*
WHY: Because when you get an intimate group of creative people together, magic happens. We’ll discuss our blocks + hurdles, where we are + where we want to go!
WHO: Anyone with creative goals + dreams. Do not feel like you need to be a “full time artist” to attend! If you’re passionate about creativity, and want help + a little push getting further down your path, then this is for you.
*BRING: Old art supplies (and random bits of whatever) that you should’ve thrown out years ago. We’ll toss them all in the middle of a table and get to work making the ugliest, worst piece of art we’ve ever made! Why? Because A. it’s actually really hard to make truly terrible art proving that you are in fact super talented, and B. because anything you make after this piece will be better… nowhere to go but up! Oh, and C. it’s REALLY FUN!

ADULT STORYTIME WITH DANIELLE KRYSA - ADULT EVENT
A circle storytime for grown-ups? Yes! Of course, the milk and cookies will be replaced with wine and cheese! After reading the story, and a short talk by the author, Danielle Krysa aka The Jealous Curator, we’ll roll up our sleeves and make some of the projects from the back of the book — painted macaroni necklaces, for example! Fun, fun, fun — and a great reminder that you should always have JOY by your side, no matter what the art bullies (ie. critics, inner critics, trolls, etc) have to say!
One ticket per attendee. Each ticket comes with (1) “ART and JOY - Best Friends Forever” book. If you would like multiple books, they will also be available for purchase at the event.
SUPPLIES: all provided.
GUIDED BY: Danielle Krysa, Author and, Visual Artist.

STORYTIME WITH DANIELLE KRYSA KIDS EVENT
It’s storytime with Danielle Krysa! Author of “How To Spot An Artist”, Danielle will be reading her latest children’s book, "ART and JOY - Best Friends Forever". It's a story about two best friends, Art and Joy, who love being creative — until the Art Bully shows up and starts putting doubts in Art's ear! After we’ve read the story (and had a few sweet treats), we’ll roll up our sleeves and make some of the projects from the back of the book — like turning boring grey rocks into chubby green pickles, for example! Fun and silly, and not an Art Bully in sight!
One ticket per family. Each ticket comes with (1) “ART and JOY - Best Friends Forever” book. If you would like multiple books, they will also be available for purchase at the event.
SUPPLIES: all provided
AGES: Recommend for 5-9 years old, but all ages welcome
GUIDED BY: Danielle Krysa, Author and, Visual Artist.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
This is the story of two best friends—Art and Joy—and how they overcome the insidious “Art Bully” that criticizes their creative endeavors. Danielle Krysa knows that kids have an inner critic too—the kind that tells them their artworks are stupid, messy, the wrong color, or just plain wrong.
Employing the same arch humor that make her books for adults so relatable and helpful, Krysa illustrates this uplifting tale with her brilliantly colored collages and witty typography. As Art and Joy learn how to tap into their imaginations and shrug off the Art Bully, they also discover some clever ways to get their creative juices flowing using color, shape, line and found objects.
Kids of all ages will find enthusiastic support and valuable inspiration in this playful parable.
Hardcover, 40 pages, 2023.
